A rare bashofu (banana fiber) kimono from Okinawa. The cloth is made by hand tying the fine strands inside the trunks of banana trees together and then weaving them. Bashofu kimono became popular in humid Okinawa as the fabric stands away from the skin and allows the body to cool.
